Student Pastor Job Description

The Student Pastor provides overall leadership and coordination for the 6th–12th grade Student Ministry.  This role focuses to carry out the church’s mission through engaging students, equipping volunteers, building teams, and raising up leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary leader for all programming related to 6th–12th grade students.
  • Collaborate with teaching teams to ensure coverage for Sunday morning Middle and High School classes; teach as needed. Recruit new volunteers and teachers.
  • Plan and lead Sunday evening Student Ministry programming during the school year.
  • Organize and lead special events and summer programing.
  • Oversee Student Ministry communications, including the monthly e-newsletter and social media platforms.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers, parents, students, and the church regarding Student Ministry.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for engaging and discipling students, especially during peak seasons such as summer.
  • Create and execute a plan for volunteer recruitment, training, and retention.
  • Build and lead a Student Ministry team to assist in planning, delegating, and relational connection; provide ongoing volunteer opportunities to build camaraderie and strengthen team dynamics.
  • Take an active leadership role in Family Life events (e.g., Trunk or Treat).
  • Assist with the Leadership Residency program as it relates to Student Ministry.
  • Explore outreach opportunities to engage students in local schools and the broader community.
  • Establish an annual ministry rhythm (e.g., attending CIY each summer) to create sustainable momentum and engagement across the ministry year.

Qualifications & Expectations:

  • Passionate and energetic about connecting with students and building teams.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Proven ability to build and lead teams, develop leaders, and manage a growing ministry.
  • Experience leading a student ministry in a Christian Church environment.
  • Comfortable working with individuals across all age groups in the church.
  • Approachable, teachable, and relationally driven.
  • Heart for outreach and a desire to connect with students not yet connected to a church.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Pastor to review and assess quarterly ministry goals.
